Ahead of an upcoming tournament, the Wayne High volleyball team took part in their first road match of the season.

From Atkinson, WHS visited West Holt on Tuesday.

After both teams split their opening sets, Wayne High secured a four-set road victory over West Holt. The Blue Devils are now 1-1 on the season while the Huskies fell to 0-3.

Scores of the match favored Wayne 25-22, 18-25, 25-14, 25-21.

Head Blue Devil volleyball coach Nichelle Daum said, “Upper level leadership showed tonight (Tuesday). The girls really did a nice job with finishing tight sets which was a goal they made at the beginning of the year. So, it was fun to see them get excited for that. Our serve game was aggressive which has been a focus since last Thursday.”

Coach Daum also added, “the girls fought hard and came out with a lot of intensity for a long road game.” (Wayne to Atkinson was nearly two hours one-way).

Wayne individual stats were not available at the time of submission.

The Wayne High volleyball team will next compete in the Jean Groth Classic hosted by Wisner-Pilger and Pender on Thursday, Sept. 5 and Saturday, Sept. 7. The Blue Devils will compete at Wisner-Pilger during the Wisner 2 pool with Lutheran High Northeast at 5:30 p.m. before closing out Thursday evening with Oakland-Craig around 7:30 p.m. Matches will also be played this Saturday.
