April 22, 2004 — Harder achieves PGA status

It was like going back to school. But the long hours of studying and work have paid off for Wayne Country Club Professional Troy Harder, who recently became a member of the Professional Golf Association of America. "It's a relief to be done," said 39-year-old Harder, who is in his ninth year as the club pro at the Wayne Country Club. Harder spent the past three years working on what is considered to be the highest achievement in golf. He would spend much of his time in December and January studying for tests that he would have to pass every February at the PGA's National Education Center based in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Harder passed three levels of testing over a three year period to become a PGA member. The levels of testing covered all aspects of golf, ranging from teaching, club repair, customer relations, rules and the business part of the game. Not bad for a player to did not grow up around the sport of golf.
