For the second straight year, Wayne State College beach volleyball player Jordan McCormick has been voted to the 2023-24 Academic All-America Women’s At-Large Team in NCAA Division II earning Second Team honors. The award was announced Tuesday morning and selected by College Sports Communicators.
McCormick, a senior from Elkhorn South HS, maintained a 4.00 grade point average majoring in K-6 special education. She was one of just three beach volleyball players in NCAA Division II to receive the honor.
The At-Large category includes athletes from 10 sports – bowling, beach volleyball, crew/rowing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing and water polo.
This season, McCormick was named Most Valuable Pairing in beach volleyball for a second straight season, teaming with freshman Channatee Robles for an 8-6 record this season.
She closed her beach volleyball career with a school-record 49-18 pairings record. Last season, McCormick received CSC Academic All-America Women’s At-Large Second Team honors becoming the first Wildcat player in beach volleyball to be named Academic All-American.
Other academic honors for McCormick this year include Bob Cunningham/Wayne State Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, NSIC Elite 18 and NCAA Elite 90 awards as the top scholar athlete at the conference and national championships for indoor volleyball in the fall and NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic With Distinction.
McCormick is the sixth Wayne State athlete to earn College Sports Communicators Academic All-American honors this year, joining volleyball players Taya Beller (First Team), Jordan McCormick (Second Team) and Rachel Walker (Second Team) along with football player Jett Janssen (Second Team) and men’s cross country/track and field athlete Gabe Peitz (Third Team).
The Wayne State College beach volleyball team finished the 2024 season with a 10-6 record, including a 3-3 mark at the season-ending AVCA Small College Beach Championships.
