Wayne student earns top scholarship

Wayne High senior Norah Armstrong received top scholarship honors in the Distinguished Young Women of Nebraska scholarship program.

Armstrong was named Distinguished Young Woman of Nebraska for 2025 on July 14 at an awards ceremony held at Bennington High School.

She earned $6,750 in cash scholarships and over $850,000 in tuition scholarship offerings as the Nebraska representative, in addition to receiving the overall scholastics and overall interview awards.

Second place overall was Jennifer Bonge of Millard North High School, receiving $4,250 in cash scholarships, including the overall fitness, self-expression, talent and Spirit awards.

Other awards included: McKenna Smith of Wahoo High School, $900 in cash scholarships as the second place scholastics and Be Your Best Self winner; Katie O’Connell of Marian High School, a $500 cash scholarship as the second place interview winner; and Latin Plebanek of Papillion LaVista-South High School, $500 as the Creative Arts Essay winner.

A $500 alumnae scholarship was awarded to Megan Marasco, a recent graduate of Millard South High School who participated in the 2024 program. A total of $13,400 in cash scholarships and over $2 million in tuition offerings were awarded.

Norah is the daughter of Matthew and Shelly Armstrong of Wayne. She will advance to the national scholarship program in June 2025.

Distinguished Young Women is a program specifically for high school female students entering their senior year of high school, focusing on excellence in scholarship, leadership and talent.
